20-year-old motorcyclist and moose die in crash

A heartbreaking incident in Great Barrington, Massachusetts has left residents grieving over the sudden and tragic death of a young man. According to Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue, 20-year-old Wyeth Curtis lost his life in a fluke accident when his motorcycle collided with a moose on Route 7. The accident occurred on the night of October 2, around 10:30 P.M., just south of Monument Mountain Regional High School. Despite wearing appropriate safety gear like a full helmet and leather apparel, Curtis unfortunately hit the hindquarters of the moose that stepped out in front of him. The collision caused the motorcycle to slide under the moose and across the road, leading to a subsequent motor vehicle accident involving two other cars. Shugrue expressed his sympathy for Curtis and his family, emphasizing that Curtis was following all safety protocols for riding motorcycles. The tragic incident, described as a fluke accident, has deeply affected the community and the cycling industry, where Curtis worked as an assistant manager at Berkshire Bike and Board. Shugrue, who is also personally acquainted with the pain of losing a loved one, reminds drivers to exercise caution while on the road, particularly during nighttime and dusk when wildlife accidents are more common.
