2 severely injured in US 71 crash; High speeds over 100 mph blamed
Two individuals are currently in critical condition following a crash Thursday evening that police suspect was caused by driving at excessive speed. Authorities in Kansas City, Missouri, reported that a burgundy Honda Civic traveling north on U.S. 71 near Red Bridge Road before 4 p.m. on Thursday was involved in the incident. According to investigators, the Civic was observed speeding at over 100 miles per hour, weaving between vehicles, and passing dangerously close. The driver attempted to avoid a collision by making a sudden correction, resulting in the Civic skidding and eventually rolling over at least three times before coming to a stop. Both the driver and another passenger were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital, with the driver being ejected from the vehicle. The Kansas City Police Department's DUI unit was dispatched to the scene for further examination, while the investigation into the crash continues.
