2 people injured in a 3-vehicle crash near Gonzalez
A crash involving three vehicles, including a Monterey-Salinas Transit Rides bus, took place on the outskirts of Gonzales on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. Initial reports indicated that a man driving a Kia sedan was traveling north on the Old Stage Road overcrossing and illegally passed the MST bus by crossing into the southbound lane after ignoring a stop sign. The Kia then collided head-on with a GMC pickup truck in the southbound lane, which had the driver and two juveniles onboard. The impact caused the sedan to spin out and hit the MST bus. A CHP officer at the scene reported that the female driver of the GMC truck and one passenger sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. The man driving the Kia and a female passenger in the sedan also sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, the MST bus, carrying ten passengers on the way to La Casa Adult Day Health Center in Salinas, did not have any severe injuries reported among the passengers or the driver. MST officials mentioned that the bus returned the passengers to their homes. The crash is currently being investigated, with alcohol suspected to have contributed to the incident.
