2 injured severely in 3-vehicle collision in Independence

A serious three-car collision occurred in Independence, resulting in two individuals being in critical condition. The incident took place at the intersection of Highway 40 and Sterling Avenue on Friday night. According to police, a Ford Escape traveling east collided with a northbound Ford F-250 truck, which then struck a Toyota Avalon in the intersection. Emergency services took three of the four individuals involved to nearby hospitals. As of now, two individuals remain hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Detectives conducted an investigation that led to the closure of most of the intersection for five hours. Police suspect that the drivers who sustained critical injuries were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
