2 Cats Missing After Car Totaled in I-85 Accident

Two cats from Furkids Animal Rescue are still missing after a serious crash on Interstate 85 that left the shelter's transport van completely totaled. The incident, which took place on Monday afternoon in Jackson County, resulted in the loss of eight lives and closed down all northbound lanes of the highway. The Georgia State Patrol reported that a semi-trailer collided with a Dodge van, triggering a chain reaction involving several other vehicles. The Furkids van was carrying 37 kittens to a partner shelter in Vermont when the crash occurred. While most of the kittens have been found, two are still missing - Birch and Strawberry Shortcake. Another kitten named Morticia is receiving treatment at the University of Georgia for pulmonary contusions. Furkids is seeking donations to replace the van and cover medical expenses for Morticia. The driver of the Furkids van has been discharged from the hospital after sustaining minor injuries. The shelter expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy and commended the driver for his dedication to the cats during the crisis. Donations can be made through the Furkids website to support their rescue efforts and assist with the van replacement. The driver of the tractor-trailer responsible for the crash has been arrested on multiple charges related to the incident.
